List -
Several Items Selected - Modify Tab If you select several files in the List and then right-click on a file in the List, the File Name Change Dialog will appear. This is extremely helpfull for changing the name of a group of files by adding something to the front of the name. For example, suppose you just downloaded several pictures of the Linderhof Castle from the Internet conveniently labeled 001.jpg to 101.jpg. Name like that both make it next to impossible to remember what the picture was, and make it hard to drag and drop because there could already be a different file with the same name in the directory. So select the list of files, right click, enter "Linderhof_Castle_Jan_15_2004_" in the dialog, and the files will be renamed Linderhof_Castle_Jan_15_2004_001.jpg to Linderhof_Castle_Jan_15_2004_101.jpg . It's OK to use spaces in the name. I added the date to make sure that the new name won't conflict with other downloads of the Linderhof Castle. s in the name. Several Items Selected - Complete Tab If you select several files in the List and then right-click on a file in the List, the File Name Change Dialog will appear. This is extremely helpfull for completely changing the name of a group of files. For example, suppose you just downloaded pictures from your vacation labeled pic001.jpg to pic101.jpg. Name like that both make it next to impossible to remember what the picture was. So select the list of files, right click, select the Complete tab, enter "vacation2007" in the dialog, and the files will be renamed vacation2007-001.jpg to vacation2007-101.jpg . It's OK to use spaces in the name. |

The fast move box is populated by the directories you move file to with the most recent directory being on the top.
You can manually clear the list with the Clear button and add new directories with the Browse button. The Browse button is inactive if there are no directories listed.
Move Files will move the currently selected files to the selected directory. If no files are selected, the current picture in focus is moved.

|
On the left is the Slider. The numbers on the Slider indicate how
many pictures are in the directory you are currently looking at. The
pointer (which looks like home plate sideways) shows you the number of
the picture you are looking at. You can drag the pointer up or down to
directly select any picture to look at. In this case, there are three
pictures in the directory number 0, 1, and 2. The current picture is
1. |
|
Next to the Slider is the List, which is hidden when you first start
JIBS. The arrows on the right margin (circled in blue) are used to
hide and unhide the List. The divider the arrows are on can be used to
resize the List. The List is a sorted list of all the file names for the pictures in the current directory. You can use the Sort menu to change the sort order. The current file is shown in red text. Double clicking on a file name in the file list will cause the picture to be shown. You can also drag one or more selected files from this to the Tree to move them. (This also works if you drag them to Windows Explorer, or other Java drop enabled components.) Note that the semantics of initiating a drag operation from this list are somewhat frustrating due to Java limitations - after highlighting wait a second and drag slightly sideways and the cursor should change to indicate a drag has started. Pressing the Control Key ("Ctrl") will cause the drag to be a copy instead of a move. |
|
The picture you are looking at. If the picture fits in the space
shown, it will have a black background. If the picture does not fit in
the space shown, it will resized to fit and will have a red
background. You can turn off automatic resizing from the Setting
Dialog (on the menu, View Settings). You can drag the picture to the Tree. (This also works if you drag the picture to Windows Explorer, or other Java drop enable components.) It much easier to start a drag from here than from the List. Pressing the Control Key ("Ctrl") will cause the drag to be a copy instead of a move. Right-clicking on the picture will bring up some information about the picture. The information shown depends on what was used to take the picture. There are several viewer for the picture found under the view menu. Currently there are Resize, No Resize, and Thumbnails. |
|
The Tree is on the right-hand side of the screen. It shows your
image directories in a traditional tree format. The numbers after the
directories are the file count for that directory. You can change the
root of the Tree from the Setting Dialog (on the menu, View
Settings). You organize your pictures by dragging them from the List or the Picture to the right directory in the Tree. You can also drag from the operating system on to the Tree. Double clicking on a directory will make that directory become the currently view directory. The little arrows at the top of the divider (circled in blue) will collapse or expand the Tree just like the List. You can always drag the divider. |

| Save |
Saves the currently displayed pictures with any changes made by Left,
Right, Shrink, or Grow. The auto-resizing has no effect on the saved
image. |
| Save As |
Saves a copy of the file under a new
name. |
| Rename |
Brings up a dialog box to change the file name of the currently displayed picture. |
| Undo |
Undoes moves. If you change the directory you are viewing, undo is
cleared. |
| Redo |
Undoes Undo. |
| Prior Directory |
Similar to Back in a browser. If you
have selected more than one directory from the Tree, this will take you
back to the last directory you looked at. Most useful for previewing a
directory to see if it is the one you want to move the picture to. |
| Next Directory |
Similar to Forward in a browser. If you used Prior Directory, this will take you forward to the directory you were looking at when you hit back. Most useful for previewing a directory to see if it is the one you want to move the picture to. |
| Refresh | Causes the currently displayed directory to be reloaded from disk. Usefull when you have modified the directory contents outside of JIBS. |
| Rotate Left, Rotate Right |
Rotates the picture ±90° and activates the Save button. You need to
hit the Save button if you want to save the rotated picture. If
auto-resize is in effect (the background is red), the image will be
saved at its actual original size adjusted by Shrink or Grow, not the
displayed size. Remember, if the background is black, the display
size and the actual size are the same. |
| Shrink, Grow |
Makes the picture 10% larger or smaller. and activates the Save button. If auto-resize is in effect (the background is red), the image will be saved at its original size adjusted by Shrink or Grow, not the displayed size. Remember, if the background is black, the display size and the actual size are the same. |
| Full Screen | Show the application full screen. Once in full sceen mode, pressing the escape key will bring JIBS back to it regular size. You can also right click to exit or start the slide show. |
| Full Screen Show | Same a Full Screen except the pictures will advance automatically.
